The School of
Engineering is one of the largest of its type in the UK. There are
approximately 300 academic, teaching and research staff,
and 1,600 postgraduates following taught programmes or undertaking
research. The School is made up of three Divisions: Civil and
Mechanical Engineering; Electrical and Electronic Engineering;
Manufacturing (Warwick Manufacturing Group).
Warwick is one of the few
universities which has a unified department covering, and wherever
possible integrating, most branches of Engineering. It is large,
thriving, well-equipped and active in many fields of teaching and
research, and has, in addition, won numerous training awards. As well
as the renowned International Manufacturing Centre housing
state-of-the-art laser equipment and machining facilities, there are a
number of specialist units such as Computational Fluid Dynamics and
the Development Technology Unit. The School has extensive links with
industry, illustrated by the International Automotive Research Centre.
For all degrees within the School,
the School's links with industry help to provide vacation training
placements for students. Students are encouraged to undertake a period
of industrial training in the Second (BEng and MEng) and Third Year (MEng)
long vacations and are given some assistance in finding suitable
employment. In addition the School is happy to defer entry for
students who wish to gain pre-university experience. Although the
School does not advertise sandwich courses we are pleased to permit
students to interrupt their studies for a full year to obtain suitable
work experience if they so wish.
By adopting a unified approach to
engineering, and emphasising the interdisciplinary aspects, Warwick is
able to maintain flexibility in its degree structures. It offers
several degree programmes, accredited by the appropriate Engineering
Institutions. In addition, they are recognised by the European
Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI) as meeting the
higher educational requirements for registration on the European
Engineer Register.
The programmes have maximum
flexibility for those students wishing to develop their communication,
creative and analytical skills. Our Admissions Tutors are always
willing to help by discussing choices between our degree programmes.
The Engineering degree programme offers plenty of time in which to
decide which specialism (if any) matches your aspirations. Please
refer to the appropriate degree programme entry for details of how to
contact us.
